- What happens when a child becomes an adult?

This is permanent life insurance, which your child or grandchild can keep for life as long as premiums are paid and there were no material misrepresentations on your original application. At age 21, the child will become the owner of the policy and will be responsible for paying premiums.

- Can the rates be raised just because of changes in age or health?

No. Once a child is covered by AARP Young Start life insurance, he or she can’t be singled out for a rate increase. Premiums are not guaranteed. However, rates may change only if they are changed for all others in the same class of insureds under this policy.

There’s just one exclusion. If death results from suicide in the first two years, benefits will not be paid. Missouri and North Dakota residents: The suicide exclusion applies only for one year.
